A Year of Projects Update - week 46

We have had a birthday weekend here this week!  Daniel is 7 today, can't believe it was 7 years ago!
I have no FO's this week.  But I now have a few WIP's.
My Quiet Stars by Joji Locatelli is coming along nicely.  The lace is nice and easy to remember and so now it's just a lot of back and forth.
I also made a little progress on my summer shortie socks.  This is the hot air balloon colourway by Little French Meadow.
I also cast on a market bag with my left over Lyonese yarn, which is a linen blend by Blacker.
Later this week I also intend to cast on some mitts for Daniel.  My drawing challenge is coming along, I will try to put some pics together for next week.

Other than that we are going bowling in a little while and then will be having a birthday roast dinner and cake.  Daniel wanted to help with the cake so he added sprinkles and I needed help getting the Kit Kat fingers to the right length!
Hope everyone has a lovely week.

A Year of Projects Update - week 45

I'm not completely sure what happened the last 2 weeks.  Last week time just got completely away from me.  We weren't particularly busy but I ran out of time.  This week my husband hd the laptop so I couldn't blog yesterday.  Anyway, what have I been up to?

I finished Thomas's socks last week.  These are basically the blueberry waffle socks knit in the Knitting Goddess Tiger feet. I shall be starting Daniel's soon.
I have also pretty much finished my first pair of mitts.  I unfortunately missed a couple of increases, so the thumb hole is a little tight but I am hoping I might be able to block them rather than rip back, but I shall sort that out later.

This all meant I only have one active WIP on my needles (what...?)  My Quiet Stars by Joji.  This is coming along lovely, but I feel it is going to take a little while now.

I do have 2 old WIP's which I am going to try to progress with soon - honestly!
However, this means I need to cast on more!  I have decided to put the next socks (magnolia) by Helen Stewart on hold for a moment and instead jump back in next month.  I have instead cast on some shortie socks for myself.
I am also going to cast on a market bag out of the leftover Lyonese from my Zinone.  In addition I have put the yarn to one side to knit Daniel a pair of gloves for Christmas - he tells me he wants fingers!

We have been enjoying another warm spell here in the UK.  This is unusual for a bank holiday weekend but we are not complaining.  I have been watching the Green Bean podcast by the lady that illustrates the Pom Pom magazines and she has inspired my to get my sketchpads back out and do some drawing.  I used to draw quite a bit, but haven't done it for ages.  So to kick start this I signed up to 2, 31 day drawing challenges with Creativebug. Daniel is joining me and so far we are keeping up nicely.  We are going to Tilgate today - a local park with an animal centre, so we will take our drawing materials - I may share next week.
I also made some summerfruit jam - I found the fruit in the deepest darkest depths of the freezer so thought I would do something useful with it!

A Year of Projects Update - week 43

England seems to have bypassed Spring!  Summer has suddenly arrived (I'm not exactly complaining, although I don't really like the heat), but I suspect spring may be back.

Despite the heat I have made some significant progress.
Last week I completely forgot that I had made quite a lot of progress on Thomas's Christmas jumper.  So this week, I managed to finish it.
This is in John Arbon Textiles knit by numbers and is pretty much tenderheart by Tincan Knits (in Heart on my Sleeve).
I have also made progress on Quiet Stars by Joji Locatelli.  I have done the back to the armpit ad am now making my way done the right side.  The pattern is lovely and easy to memorise although looks much harder.  The yarn is metelsome by Amy Florence at Stranded dyeworks.
So as I said it has been lovely in the UK at the moment, so we have been barbecueing  and going out.  We have also had the class bear so lots of photos have been taken!

I'm sure the weather will be back to normal next week, so have  lovely week.

A Year of Projects Update - Week 42

I have a little bit to show this week.  Somewhat helped by the fact I missed last week and I have been on holiday the past two weeks.  I probably ought to get going then!
I finished Zinone about 2 weeks ago. It is still unblocked but I will get to that soon.
This is knit in Blacker Lyonese which is a linen blend, I love it and the colour.
I also finished my Winter Rose socks which is the first socks in the handmade sock society by Helen Stewart.

I finished these a while ago too and really should be casting on the second socks but have yet to do so.  These are knit in the Knitting Goddess Wensleydale and shetland.
I cast on Quiet Stars by Joji Locatelli and have been making good progress.
This is in Stranded Dyeworks in Metelsome (I can't remember which base), I am loving both yarn and pattern.
I have also been making progress on my gift mittens.
These are in stash yarn which is an alpaca so it is so soft.
And finally, I have been making great progress on the socks for Thomas.  Again these are in a Knitting Goddess yarn in the colourway tiger feet.
I have turned the heel and am now making my way up the leg.
So there it is!  I hope everyone has a great week.

A Year of Projects Update - week 40

Ah we finally made it to the Easter break.  I think we are all over the various illnesses that have befallen us.  Thank you everyone for your good wishes last week, we are all feeling much better with no ill effects.

I think I have a little bit of everything this week.
I finished my Reflections shawl by Veera Valimaki from Interpretations 5.  I love this, it is very squishy and cosy and I wore it out today.
I have made progress on most things this week as well.  I am very nearly finished on my Winter rose socks and my Zinone.  I have no photos this week of those, but hopefully, next week they will be done and I will have FO shots for you.
I have cast on some mittens for my niece.
These are in some alpaca yarn I have had in stash for a while.

I also finally got round to dying some yarn I had this week.  I bought some undyed yarn a while ago.  I dyed some for my breathing space, but had lots left over.  This has coincided with me having a bit of a glut of red onions!  So last week I made some red onion marmalade and then used the onion skins to dye some skeins.  I decided I wanted a sweaters quantity and I am very happy with the colour I got.  I followed a blog post and thought I would get a much greener hue, but this is a lovely brown colour that I am very happy with.  I do not know what I am going to do with it yet, but I am hoping that it might become something from Interpretations.
And I think that is it for a moment.  We went to the wildlife centre this morning and saw a polecat for the first time for a while - he was just peeking out!
Hope everyone has has a great week.

A Year of Projects Update - week 39

This will be a short one this week.  The cold I had last week turned out to be flu and me and Thomas have spent the week feeling very sorry for ourselves and lounging around the house.  I seemed to do lots of knitting, but made little progress.  I was also able to do lots of dream knitting and online shopping.
I think I will start with that.  I was watching Joji's journals the other week and she showed a cardi she had designed for the Curious handmade retreat.  I am now in love with it.  Joji made it with 2 strands of laceweight held together and so I have bought some Blacker BFL laceweight from Brityarn who are closing down so have the yarn on sale.  I am going to make up the second strand with some drift from Amy Florence of Stranded Dyeworks but I am gong to wait for the pattern to be released so I can see how much I need - Joji said May!
I have been working away at Reflection.
And have finished the penultimate ball of yarn on Zinone.
And I have turned the heel on the Winter Rose socks.
Next week is Easter and we have some holiday coming up so I am hoping to finish some if not all, of these.
Now I am going to rest up some more - have a great week.

A Year of Projects Update - week 38

I'm feeling a little under the weather today, but it has meant I have done a fair bit of knitting.
We have also had a little more snow.

I completed three more little socks for my advent calendar this week.
I have made progress on the winter rose socks.
The yarn is a Wensleydale Shetland blend from the knitting goddess.  I am on the heel now and am going to add a fish lips kiss heel.
I have also made progress on Zinone but it looks much the same so will report next week on that project.
I have cast on socks for Thomas in another yarn by the knitting goddess in tiger feet.
and I have added the next bits to reflection - I decided on a contrast colour as I think I will run out.
I love this shawl, and I'm not really a shawl person!
Anyway, I'm off to bed now!  Hope you all have a good week.
